AINOLA, Jean Sibelius (1909)

Aino and Jean Sibelius moved into Ainola in 1904 and their home is furnished with plenty of furniture designed by the composer. One example is the corner cabinet which the maestro designed for the living room downstairs for Mrs Sibelius to keep her scores in.

The 50th anniversary of the death of Sibelius occurred in 2007, and BIS, the label that has always been a strong supporter of his music since their beginnings, in September of that year, released the first set of a projected 13 volume edition of every note put down to paper by Jean Sibelius, spanning a total of 65 compact discs.

The visual journey to the music of Jean Sibelius DVD consists of compositions played to animated photographs of the beautiful archipelago of Finland. The DVD contains over 400 photographs from Janne Gröning and nine most beautiful masterpieces of Jean Sibelius. A booklet about the life of Jean Sibelius and his most important compositions in six different languages is included.

In the book ”Jean Sibelius and Fatherland” professor Veijo Murtomäki presents the most essential patriotic compositions by Sibelius and compares them to the times of independence battle. The book is complemented by a CD record which includes Sibelius' patriotic compositions interpreted by the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Helsinki University Choir (YL). This CD record can be acquired with this book only.

Typographer Walto Malmiola has compiled the portrait only of typographic lines., It is printed on KK printing, Helsinki, Finland 1937. Professor Sibelius has kindly provided the portrait with his signature and agreed that it is sold for the benefit of children who become orphaned by the war. Sales are made through the association Ihmisten ja Luonnon Ystävät ry. (Man and Nature's Friends).
